A Dialogue on
Psychology and Archaeology
On 12th April 2026, Planet Patna hosted a memorable session titled “Samay, Mitti aur Mann (Time, Soil and Mind)”, a special talk by Dr. Vinay, a distinguished psychiatrist and poet. The session opened up a thoughtful conversation on the deep connection between psychology and archaeology.
Dr. Kumar reflected on the human impulse to search for the past, asking why people dig, why they are drawn to buried histories, and why uncovering fragments of earlier civilizations continues to hold such fascination. His address positioned archaeology not merely as a study of ruins and objects, but as a field that reveals the instincts, desires, and memory of the human mind.
Reflections from
Distinguished Voices
The event was further enriched by the presence of Mr. Prem Kumar Mani, senior journalist, writer, and former member of the Bihar Legislative Council, who shared a few insightful words and added depth to the occasion.
Dr. Bijoy Kumar Choudhury, former Director of the K.P. Jaiswal Research Institute and an archaeologist himself, spoke about his own journey in archaeology, the institutional legacy of the K.P. Jaiswal Research Institute, and his experiences with major archaeological sites including Harappan locations such as Rakhigarhi. His remarks highlighted both the academic and personal dimensions of archaeological work, as well as the ways in which institutions shape generations of scholars.
A Layered
Conversation
The session concluded with a reflection by Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad, son of the renowned historian Dr. Qeyamuddin Ahmad, who spoke about the scope for strengthening Patna's engagement with tangible heritage and cultural initiatives.
Together, the voices of the evening created a layered conversation on memory, material culture, scholarship, and the continuing relevance of the past in shaping present intellectual life.
